Transferable SkillsIn addition to the to the wide range of scientific skills the students are exposed to, Babraham offers a unique environment for developing other life skills; such as communication skills by explaining their science to lay audiences, building relationships as well as developing their creative skills through the design and implementation of our science outreach activities.
Students also get the opportunity to experience teaching small groups of University undergraduates in supervisions and, in addition, to demonstrate and explain research techniques to sixth form students during the Institute’s Annual Schools Day.
Our students are also involved in organising the annual Symposium for Biological and Life Science Students (SymBLS) which is an event for postgraduate students from the life science institutes and departments at the University of Cambridge. The symposium is a venue for students to present and discuss their research with peers from across the University and allows our students to develop their communication and organisational skills. It also allows them to network with other graduate students and with internationally recognised keynote speakers.
