Originally from the Kingdom of Scotland, Iain completed a BSc in Molecular & Cellular Biology at the University of Glasgow. Heading south in search of warmer climes, Iain joined the 4-year PhD programme at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. After 3 rotation projects which earned him an MRes in Medical Science, he elected to stay in the Sharpe Lab to complete his PhD project.
His work focuses on using structural and biochemical techniques to investigate the mechanism of tyrosine phosphatase activity; with a particular focus on those which harbour non-canonical enzymatic motifs.
Outside of work, Iain can be found rowing on the Cam or playing guitar in Cambridge’s most mediocre cover band.
