Semantic Data Integration and Knowledge Management in Life Sciences
The effective mining of biological information depends strongly on the semantic representation of large, diverse and highly complex textual and non-textual datasets. Knowledge management has emerged as the best approach to address this challenge. In biomedical research the increasingly broad multidisciplinarity in R&D, combined with complex regulatory requirements for product approval in industry, present scientists with a particularly difficult and time consuming task. The seminar will illustrate the applications of semantic data integration in personalised medicine and patient stratification, with examples in neuroscience and respiratory disease in hospital settings.
