The Heidi Welch Group

Our group is part of the Inositide ISP at the Babraham Institute. We study activators of the small G protein Rac, an essential regulator of cell shape and motility, gene expression and oxygen radical formation. We work mainly on P-Rex family GEFs, which are guanine-nucleotide exchange factors that activate Rac. We discovered the P-Rex family a few years ago. Since then, we have been studying their mechanisms of regulation and their functional roles in neutrophils and cerebellar Purkinje neurons. Recently, we have started to look also at other activators of Rac.
