« « « Sonja Vermeren
Sonja originates from Germany. She started her degree in biology at the University of Jena, took a year out to learn English - and has stayed in Britain ever since. Sonja graduated from Dundee with an MSc in biochemistry and did her PhD in Cambridge. She then did post-docs at University College London (MRC-LMCB) and at the Babraham Institute, getting more interested in small GTPases and their regulators.
Sonja is a BBSRC David Phillips Fellow and as such has been a group leader at Babraham since 2006.
Laure Gambardella » » »
Laure studied for her degree and PhD in Paris before embarking on post-docs in the UK, France and Switzerland. Over the last ten years Laure has accumulated expertise working with tissue-specific stem and progenitor cells, with a particular interest in the skin, the endothelium and blood. Laure now uses such stem and progenitor cells to study the development of diverse tissues, getting involved in many different aspects of our projects. Laure joined Sonja’s laboratory in 2008.
« « « Elena Morelli
Elena recently finished her degree at the University of Florence. She won Leonardo da Vinci funding to study ARAP3’s function in angiogenesis.
Gone but not forgotten:
Bethany Hughes
Beth was the first person to join Sonja’s group as a research assistant. Beth was bags of fun and great in the laboratory, too – but decided she’d much rather be a chef than work in the laboratory. Since she creates pastries instead of Westerns. We keep hoping she’ll come back to visit soon and bring some goodies along!
Helen Craig
Helen did a degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, specialising in Biochemistry. Laboratory placements abroad in the summer holidays and her final year project persuaded her to do a PhD, and she joined Sonja’s group in 2006 to study ARAP3’s interactions with other molecules. Helen recently wrote up her PhD and is now training to become a science teacher. We miss her wit and the frequent scientific discussions!Susann Voigt
Susann was an undergraduate student at Lausitz University in Germany, who spent six months’ research in Sonja’s laboratory.
Flora Tomasello
Flora was our second research assistant, until she left us to run an imaging facility in Sicily on a permanent basis.
