About the Pell Laboratory
Our lab is situated on the Babraham Research Campus, in a new laboratory building (see right). We are mostly funded via a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) grant to the Babraham Institute, as well as individual project grants.
Our laboratory members usually include postdocs, PhD students (who are all registered with the University of Cambridge, of which Babraham is a recognised postgraduate institution), and summer/visiting students.
The research in our laboratory is centred on the theme of signalling mechanisms that regulate adult stem cell fate, using the muscle stem cell as an excellent paradigm. The laboratory ethos is teamwork whilst ensuring individual growth; thus, while we have clear ideas for projects, there will always be scope for intellectual input and development by lab members.
We have weekly ‘work in progress’ meetings as well as more focused meetings centred on individual projects. All laboratory members have the opportunity to present their work at an international meeting, so that they can discuss their findings in the best possible context.
