Babraham’s External Relations Office also supports the communications work of the Institute by building and maintaining both intranet and internet websites for the Institute. All meeting rooms have been re-equipped, including the introduction of plasma screen technology and videoconferencing.

A comprehensive IT support service is provided at the Babraham Institute with five full-time staff. The provision of computing facilities and support to commercial companies on site has similarly continued to expand. We have continued to develop the structure of services to these groups and enhance interaction and support. As part of this all companies now take security updates from Babraham as a component of their established services.

In addition to future plans for providing a generalised campus-wide secure wireless connectivity to allow users to connect from anywhere on the Babraham campus, the Institute intends to promote secure off-campus connection to the Institute to assist flexible working patterns. The Institute also aims to establish an electronic laboratory notebook facility and implement changes to meet the demands of changes in scientific applications
