Babraham Nursery is situated in two converted houses, in a quiet corner of The Close, within the Babraham Institute’s picturesque parkland estate. It has a large enclosed garden with a patio area, sandpit, climbing frames and swings.
The Nursery has a homely atmosphere and is surrounded by delightful, spacious surroundings, green fields and woods, providing a safe, attractive and stimulating environment for the formative pre-school years. Accommodating up to 60 children (6 weeks to 5 years), divided into base rooms according to age, and are cared for by qualified staff.
Healthy, nutritional food is prepared in the Nursery’s catering kitchen by the Nursery’s own catering staff: a full-time cook and kitchen assistant prepare and cook all the food and home-bake all the bread, cakes, biscuits. Children who are vegetarian or who have a medical or cultural dietary need are catered for and the Nursery is committed to providing a varied, balanced and nutritional diet for all. Children from the four base rooms eat together at meal times. Children can attend on a full-time or part-time basis, either a few days a week or just mornings or just afternoons.
The Nursery is open all year round excepting Bank Holidays and a one week closure at Christmas. During the school holidays, and for school teacher training days, we offer a holiday play scheme for 30 older children (4 - 14 year olds), which is supervised by full-time Play Workers. Our main aim is to offer a suitable programme of activities to keep the children stimulated, well occupied, active and, above all, to ensure that their school holiday is fun! The Babraham Nursery currently employees about 30 staff with a variety of professional skills and level of experience, although it is our policy only to recruit staff over the age of eighteen to ensure all staff members possess the necessary experience and qualifications. As our hours avoid staff having to work a shift-system, the children have the invaluable added benefit of seeing familiar faces throughout their sessions.
The Babraham Nursery was established in 1990, primarily to provide excellent childcare facilities on-site for the use of Babraham Institute staff. However, over the years, the facilities have grown and the nursery is now delighted to be able to provide a childcare facility on a wider basis to parents in the locality, although preference is given to Institute employees.
