The Babraham Group is committed to the prevention of pollution and the protection of our campus' environment, with particular regard to the farmland, ecology and water quality of the River Granta, the Conservation Area status of the site, the listed buildings and archaeological remains, which have been discovered on this historical site. We develop objectives and targets to continually improve our environmental performance, to manage key environmental issues and require our staff and tenants to contribute to improving our environmental performance. We are compliant with all relevant environmental legislation and other environmental regulations.
The Group is committed to understanding our environmental impacts and monitoring and reducing any adverse impacts of the organisations' operations on the environment ( e.g. Green Transport Initiative) and local community and is implementing a site-specific Environmental Management System. We adhere to policies concerning the efficient use of energy, water and materials, and seek to minimise waste and re-use and recycle wherever possible both in the design and management of our facilities. We are committed to fulfilling our role as energy and water provider with due regard to all relevant environmental legislation and to best practice in resource-use efficiency and waste management.
The environmental impact of new buildings is carefully assessed and we seek to minimise the impact on the surrounding landscapes. The demolition of old buildings and construction of new facilities is managed in such a way to ensure minimal disturbance to the inhabitants and environment of our campus and surrounding communities.
The Group is committed to raising awareness of staff, suppliers and contractors to ensure effective management of our environmental impacts; we work in partnership with our suppliers and contractors to ensure effective environmental supply chain management and to promote sustainable sourcing of products and materials
We enter into dialogue with all stakeholders with an interest in our operations, including staff, students, tenants, suppliers, contractors, appropriate authorities, local communities and other organisations, to identify key environmental issues and seek innovative solutions and appropriate alternatives.
