Commercial collaborations 2006 - 2011

13 new collaborative research projects, involving 11 different companies

12 new PhD Studentship Collaborative Awards in Science & Engineering (CASE) initiated, to be hosted at the Institute and involving 8 different partner companies

20 new consultancies started, in which Institute staff advised 14 different companies.  In addition, 6 existing consultancies with 5 companies were renewed

7 licences to the Institute’s Intellectual Property Rights signed

Crescendo Biologics Ltd was spun-out of the Institute in 2007.  The company raised £4.5 million in seed funding in 2009, and in 2010 announced the generation of the first “triple-knockout” mouse.  Crescendo Biologics is based on the Babraham Research Campus, and continues to collaborate with Institute scientists

58 companies and other external organisations benefitted from access to the Institute’s scientific facilities and services

The Institute makes available mouse lines, antibodies and other reagents to academic organisations under material transfer agreements.  In addition the Institute’s Antibody Facility sells antibodies generated by the Institute, and in this period provided these to 110 external organisations.
