Administration

The Babraham Institute is one of five Institutes sponsored by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (
BBSRC). It is an independent charitable life sciences institute and a company limited by guarantee.
Our funding is derived from our principal sponsor, the BBSRC, together with external grants or fellowships competitively gained from research councils, charities and industry. The finance department provides Institute members with real time financial information to all budget holders and management, allowing individuals to monitor and control their own spend through out the financial year.

The Babraham Institute is sponsored by the BBSRC, hence all members of staff have contracts with terms and conditions of employment negotiated centrally by this Research Council. However, many scientific staff are funded by external grants or fellowships competitively gained from research councils, charities and industry. The Institute is committed to providing a safe and supportive work environment for its employees and visitors and seeks to follow employment best practice. The terms and conditions of employment are determined by UK and European Union employment law (including Health and Safety at Work legislation). We are an Equal Opportunities employer and use family friendly policies and flexible working to benefit our employees.

The Babraham Institute believes that the training and development it provides for all its staff not only contributes towards the success of the individuals but also enhances the reputation and standing of the Institute. The personnel department is committed to ensuring that every individual who comes to Babraham receives the training and development which will not only support them in their current post but will also provide them with transferable knowledge and skills that will be useful throughout their career.
